Retirement leads to alpaca farming for one couple
SOLOMON —Retirement plans can look different for different people — travel, move closer to the grandkids, maybe spend time volunteering. For Donna and Brett Weeks it meant moving from Maryland to rural Dickinson County to raise alpacas.
Donna, who retired from the Internal Revenue Service, and Brett who retired from the Army and as a financial manager at NASA, were familiar with the area because of their greyhounds.
“I’ve been a greyhound breeder since 1985,” Donna said. “I’ve owned hundreds of race dogs and when it came time for Brett to retire we just crossed all the states off the map that we didn’t want to move to and we finally said, ‘Hey, how about Kansas.’”
