Taking the next step
Chapman High School hosted a signing event for student-athletes and their families in front of the entire student body last Wednesday, Feb. 5. The presentation was in acknowledgement of National Signing Day, traditionally the first day that a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent to participate in a collegiate sport with a school that is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Of the approximately 90 students in the CHS Class of 2020, five have currently been offered the opportunity to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level, that number represents 5.5% of the total student body. According to figures provided by the NCAA, only about 2% of high school athletes earn athletic scholarships to college. The CHS Class of 2020 almost tripled the national average.
