Pastor’s Corner

My grandfather was a whittler. I don’t hear much about whittling these days People carve, turn, cut, burn, and work with wood in so many creative ways; but I don’t see many whittlers sitting on the porch with a piece of wood and a trusty pocket knife. Grandpa carved many pieces and a few still remain in family homes. Momma had a man with moveable joint connections. Sometime over the years he lost a foot so grandpa carved him a crutch. Granny dressed the man in homemade jeans and button-front shirt. That man was very cool but paled alongside my favorite piece which was a chain with a caged ball on the end.

Inspiration for writing comes from many places and I believe many writers understand their own best sources. I write mostly about issues of faith, hope, and relationship. My inspiration often is a combination of pondering scripture, pushing my own growing edges, and observing the world and the people around me. These days of lock down have short-circuited my ability to observe much more than my own little corner of the world. As a result, I have expended much of my writing time sitting in front of a blank page.
